Chris Hemsworth Cast as Marvel's Thor
With the success of superhero movies as of late, including Iron Man and Wolverine, Marvel Comics is wasting no time and has already begun casting The Avengers. Chris Hemsworth of Star Trek fame has been cast as Thor. He will transform himself into the mystic superhero in his own self-titled film as well as in the The Avengers along with Captain America and others in 2011.
The unknown Australian actor found fame in his native land's Home and Away series and aside from his stint as Captain Kirk's father, George Kirk, in Star Trek, he is also currently participating in the horror film, The Cabin in the Woods, and was just cast in the Red Dawn remake.
Slated for June 2011, the Marvel adaptation of the thunder god and his weather-manipulating hammer is described as the origin story of Thor realizing his true potential as a god, after being tricked by his father. The script will be written by I am Legend screenwriter Mark Protosevich. Among the rumored cast members, according to /Film, is Natalie Portman, who might've nabbed the female lead.
