If you made it through all 87 minutes of David Cronenberg's disturbing 1983 sci-fi/horror nightmare, Videodrome, you'd know it's an odd selection for a remake. Not because it's bad or anything, but because, like many of Cronenberg's films, it just doesn't make sense to the average or even slightly above average viewer.
Still, it's happening, and the screenplay will be updated to focus on nano technology. According to Empire, Ehren Kruger will write and produce the project. Let's go through the proverbial pros and cons, shall we? Pros: The Ring, arguably Arlington Road. Cons: The Ring Two, Scream 3, Reindeer Games. It's a strange situation. Although Videodrome is in the Criterion Collection and by no means dismissed by critics, it's also not univerally recognized as a masterpiece. It still remains more of a high-end cult classic. So while it's not exactly Hitchcock's Vertigo or anything, the movie has a pretty serious following, and chances are, people are not going to be happy.
