Wayne Coyne recently divulged to Stereogum that the Flaming Lips are hard at work on their new album, tentatively titled Embryonic. Says the lead Lip, "We think it's gonna be called Embryonic but we don't know if it's gonna just be called Embryonic or it's gonna be called Embryonic and...something else, but we think it's gonna be called Embryonic. You can write that if you want and not be humiliated later."
The way Coyne describes the album, the band's 12th, it's almost as if it's a tale of two cities. On the one hand, it sounds like it's going to rock, and on the other, some of it sounds like it will be rather sparse. "I don't think we've done this combination on purpose before," Coyne tells Stereogum. "So that's
kinda where we're at. We have like 10 or 11 songs that kind of go
between being utterly free freakouts and songs that are very simple
that are a couple of instruments playing."
One of the new songs is called "Convinced of the Hex," which Coyne describes as as a happy accident of sorts. The band will back to the studio for another three weeks.
The Lips' last release was 2008's Christmas On Mars CD/DVD combo.

Sounds dull like the last few records.
Quit playing with puppets, bring back Ron, and make some guitar noise!!
"Sounds dull like the last few records."
Really? The last few records include the fantastic Yoshimi and also The Soft Bulletin, considered one of the best albums of all time by a wide swath of critics and fans alike.
I'll admit that Mystics wasn't as great an album as the last two but I still have faith in the F'Lips.
