Alan Colmes' departure from the Fox News Channel a few months ago created a liberally-minded vacancy at News Corp. As it turns out, that seat may be filled by what is quite possibly the most unlikely candidate imaginable: Pink Eyes, AKA: Damian Abraham, frontman of Toronto hardcore band Fucked Up. After two featured spots on Fox's early-morning Red Eye, Abraham is considering an offer to appear on the channel more regularly as a commentator.
This case study in opposites attracting begins last year, when Red Eye's host Greg Gutfeld mentioned Fucked Up's The Chemistry of Common Life as one of his favorite albums of the year. The band's label, Matador, told Abraham, who duly e-mailed Gutfeld to thank him for the free publicity. Gutfeld invited Abraham to appear on the show, and Abraham answered the challenge (clad in an Obama t-shirt, no less.) Watch the full segment here.
Fox wants Abraham to make at least one appearance a month, and initially hoped to put his women's studies degree to work by making him a commentator on "gender issues." Abraham deferred, opting to be a general pundit instead: "I pointed out that there'd probably be something problematic in having a white male be an expert on gender issues," Abraham told The Canadian Press.
Abraham differs from most politically-minded pundits in that he's just shy of 300 pounds and has a habit of drawing his own blood at rock shows. "It was like in the heart of the Death Star - I'm on Fox News, in their corporate headquarters, there's no way out if they decide to sic Bill O'Reilly and Hannity on me," he told The Canadian Press. He also confesses concern at being associated with a channel defined by its conservative slant, which he avows he's "not a fan of in any capacity, really... It's one of those things where do you take this ridiculous opportunity as it's presented to you, or do you avoid it and just continue on with your life?"

For God's sake, man - avoid it and continue with your life!
