Guided By Voices' Tobin Sprout Releases Children's Book

One former Guided By Voices member in particular probably has the best children's book author name in the business: Mr. Sprout. As luck would have it, Sprout has traded the microphone for a pen (for a moment, anyway) and put his talents (and name) to the test in his first children's book, Elliott.

With his experience as a photo-realist painter, Sprout wrote and illustrated the book with images that evoke a dreamy magical world contrasted by heavy-shadowing and 3D figures. For example, the haunting bunny on the cover shows fear in his hollow eyes at the approaching monster among light and dark brown shades. You can order one of the limited signed copies of Elliott through Sprout's website.

Sprout sells both Elliott and other prints through his website and displays his artwork at galleries around the country, from New York City to Chicago to Minneapolis. He is currently showcasing Elliott prints in the Main Street Gallery in Leland, Mich.
