It's no secret that Jack White is a fan of hype-worthy collaborations. Last week, the White Stripes/Raconteurs/Dead Weather member (and ultimate multi-tasker) teamed up with unsung legend Dex Romweber to lay down tracks for a 7".
Romweber was the frontman for retro-rockabilly outfit the Flat Duo Jets. He's recently teamed up with his sister, Sara (drums), to form the Dex Romweber Duo. In February, the Duo released their debut album, Ruins of Berlin, which includes vocals from Neko Case, Cat Power's Chan Marshall and X's Exene Cervenka.According to White himself, Romweber is not only one of his biggest inspirations, but also one of the most influential artists of underground rock in general. "Dex was and is a huge influence on my music," said White in the Flat Duo Jets' 2006 documentary, Two-Headed Cow. "I owned all of his records as a teenager... His songwriting, along with his love for classic American music from the south, be it rockabilly, country, or R&B, is one of the best-kept secrets of the rock 'n' roll underground."
The brother-sister Duo and Jack White laid out in White's new studio in Nashville, home of his Third Man Records imprint. The 7" features Dex Romweber on guitar and vocals, Sara Romweber on drums and tambourine, and Jack White on guitar, vocals and saw. White is producing the record, which is scheduled to be released in late May.
