Sharks in a Mall? Bait Announced at Cannes

Some folks take themselves so seriously that they can't appreciate a good old outlandish plot. There were a lot of those people around when Buffy the Vampire Slayer was still alive and slayin'. More recently, the haters were out in droves for Snakes On a Plane.

At Cannes last week, Gary Hamilton, managing director at Arclight Films, announced another absurd B-type flick called Bait. The premise goes a little something like this: Trapped supermarket shoppers run for their lives from a crazed killer. Yawn, right? But wait for it...there will be sharks! Because, you know, how many times can people flee some homicidal human before it gets played like Atari?

Russell Mulcahy, TV, music and straight-to-video director extraordinaire, will helm the 3-D shark adventure, which is said to begin shooting later this year.
