Captain Jack is coming back. Torchwood, the darker 2005 spin-off of the long-running Doctor Who series, will be returning for a third season later this year on BBC One in the U.K. and BBC America here in the States in July. The show follows Captain Jack Harkness—a dashing, bisexual, immortal alien (John Barrowman). Along with his secret team of government agents, he protects the Earth from all sorts of intergalactic species—who always seem to make their way to the town of Cardiff, Wales.
BBC America also announced yesterday that it will air five new specials from Doctor Who later this year. "The Next Doctor," featuring David Morrissey and Dervla Kirwan, which appeared at Christmas time last year in Britain, will premiere Saturday, June 27. It will be followed in July by "Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead." The final three specials, which will be the last to include 10th Time Lord played by David Tennant, will air later in 2009 and early 2010.
