Ryan Reynolds and his version of Deadpool are set to join the curiously long queue of proposed X-Men spin-offs, according to Variety.
The solid $85.1 million first-weekend gross of X-Men Origins: Wolverine
has already sparked sequel talk for the Hugh Jackman character, and
that’s not even to mention long-announced projects like Magneto and X-Men: First Class. Reynolds’ Deadpool, who actually has limited screen time in Wolverine, was featured in one
of the after-credits endings in a way that suggested future
possibilities for the character.
The rush to exploit the franchise seems somewhat suspect, especially
because fan and critical unease have begun to sully the brand. Many
pundits attributed the commercial success of Wolverine to Jackman’s
character recognition, which leaves the fate of the other movies an
unanswered question.
