Gilliam Touts Heath Ledger for Second Posthumous Oscar

Terry Gilliam, last Summer, on the Oscar campaign for Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight: “They'll do anything to publicize their film. That’s just what they do, and you can’t get upset, because it’s bullshit. They’re like a great white shark which devours whatever it can.”

Terry Gilliam, last week, on the planned fall release for his new movie, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus: “We want to be in that last third for the Academy Awards! Maybe we’ll get another award for Heath. We’re going to get as many awards as possible for him, long after he’s gone.”

Hmmm. Regardless, the news here is that Gilliam and cohorts plan to push Imaginarium for awards attention, which seems particularly far-fetched in Ledger’s case given that three other actors (Jude Law, Johnny Depp and Colin Farrell) share his part.

Plus, the movie’s U.S. release date remains in limbo, but the hope is that that will be cleared up this week, when it premieres at the Cannes Film Festival. In the meantime, check out this random new clip from the movie on YouTube before it gets yanked:
