Fans of David Simon's critically acclaimed drama series may do a double take when they first listen to the new album from Eminem.

Listeners might recognize the voice on the album's opening skit, "Dr. West," as The Wire's obstinate detective Jimmy McNulty. Indeed, Dominic West, who plays the street-smart cop, makes a guest appearance on the track, playing the part of a doctor discharging Mr. Mathers from rehab. Whether this track is the highlight of Relapse is yet to be discovered (see for yourself when the album drops on May 19).

The cameo by West may seem like an odd choice for the actor, but he is in fact only one of several alums of The Wire to make an attempt at music. He is joined by Tray Chaney (a.k.a. drug dealer Poot Carr), Lance Reddick (Lieutenant Cedric Daniels), and several more

Speaking of music and HBO, New Orleans artists would do well to hop aboard David Simon's new bandwagon.
