WOXY Playing Top 500 Modern Rock Songs All Week

WOXY Playing Top 500 Modern Rock Songs All Week

Returning from the holiday weekend, it's safe to say that folks in offices around the country are suffering from a the case of the, erm, Tuesdays. To ease the workweek, WOXY Internet radio is putting a new twist on an old tradition. This morning it kicked off its annual Modern Rock 500, now in its 20th year, which will play during the day this week, hitting #1 by Friday. What might oust Radiohead's "Creep" from the top spot? You'll have to listen for yourself.

To hear the list, which is chock full o' punk, post-punk, college rock, indie and pretty much anything else you could term "alternative," click on over to the WOXY Vintage page on the station's site, and tune in. We just enjoyed some youthful Beck, if that gives you any idea of what to expect. Looks like the countdown's managing to keep things current while still offering the alt-rock history for which the station's known. Fleet Foxes' "Ragged Wood," a lush, harmonious gem of 2008, aired just before "Devil's Haircut."

The Modern Rock 500 is a tried-and-true tradition at WOXY that goes back to its old-format days. The station typically aired it on Memorial Day Weekend, but decided to play it at a time more convenient for their listeners (in the daytime and during the week) this year. WOXY originated as Ohio's WOXY 97.7, "The Future of Rock & Roll," in 1983, and has existed as an Internet-only station since 2004.

Here's the week's schedule, today included:

Tuesday, May 26 @ 9 a.m. #500-376
Wednesday, May 27 @ 9 a.m. #375-251
Thursday, May 28 @ 9 a.m. #250-126
Friday, May 29 @ 9 a.m. #125-1
