Athfest 2009 Announces Dates, Lineup

Second only to the sound of the ice-cream man cruising down your block, there is one thing everyone can get excited about come summertime: music festivals! And while we're looking forward to some of the biggies like Bonnaroo and Lollapolooza, something always feels good about supporting local fare. Whether you're an Athenian by birth or simply have Georgia on your mind, you can head on down to AthFest 2009 this June 25-28 in Athens, Ga.

This year, the fest's outdoor stage boasts performances from Atlanta's own hellraisers, Black Lips, as well as Athenian natives, Dead Confederate, not to mention Nappy Roots and Patterson Hood & the Screwtopians among several others. In addition to the outdoor offerings, tons of local pubs and bars of the true-blue college town will host performances as part of a "club crawl" held on Friday and Saturday night, for which festival-goers may purchase wristbands for $15 (in advance) or $20 (during the festival) a piece. Some of the participating patrons include: the 40 Watt Club, Caledonia Lounge, Go Bar and The Library. To get more info on all things Ath, including the full line-up and participating venues, hit up the festival's website.

AthFest originated as a way to celebrate the music scene of Athens, which boasts R.E.M., Of Montreal, Neutral Milk Hotel, and many more beloved acts in its history. This June will mark the festival's 13th year.
