Ed McMahon, longtime sidekick to Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show, died early this morning in the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. He was 86 years old.
McMahon first entered the public eye as Carson's partner in his "Carnac the Magnificent" skits, and accompanied him to The Tonight Show when Carson was named its host in 1962. McMahon introduced Carson every night with his trademark bellow of "Heeeeeere's Johnny!" and remained on the show until Carson left in 1992.
McMahon is survived by his wife and five children.

Yeess!
(Or however you spell it, to make it sound like that great robust, rumbling voice he had followed up by those guffaws.)
Ed, you have been--and will continue to be--missed and will continue.
The day Johnny Carson died remains one of the saddest of my life. It pales in comparison to the day Henson died, mind you, but what wouldn't?
