Actress Farrah Fawcett, who is best known for her role in the original Charlie's Angels television series, died on this morning after a three-year battle with anal cancer. She was 62.
Fawcett, though widely known as an Angel and style icon, had an extensive acting career that continued until shortly before her 2006 diagnosis. Even afer her diagnosis, Fawcett remained in the spotlight and on screen in Farrah's Story, a two-hour NBC documentary which aired in May and chronicled her fight with cancer. The film was Fawcett's idea, and she put the project in the hands of longtime friend Alana Stewart after shooting a few scenes herself with a hand-held camera.
Farrah's Story captures much of the actress' struggle, from trips to Germany for treatment to the moments of her greatest weakness.“There were things that I thought were too invasive to film,” Stewart said at a screening of the film. “But Farrah said, ‘Film
it. This is what cancer is.’”
"Farrah had courage, she had strength, and she
had faith," Charlie's Angel co-star Jaclyn Smith said in a statement. "And now she has peace as she rests with the real angels."
