Harry Potter 6 Gets Delayed IMAX Release

Harry Potter 6 Gets Delayed IMAX Release

The angrily-received decision to move the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince to this summer will have an unforeseen consequence: Almost all IMAX screens won’t be able to show it until July 29, two weeks after its release, because Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has them booked for a four-week engagement.

As IMAX becomes an increasingly important part of blockbuster grosses, many studios are becoming more aggressive with their engagements. Although it will obviously bum out fans, the conflict between Harry Potter and Transformers is likely a non-issue for IMAX given the insane advance buzz the latter movie has enjoyed.

Half-Blood Prince will still open on conventional screens on Wednesday, July 15.
