The official trailer for It Might Get Loud
, Davis Guggenheim's documentary about guitarists Jimmy Page
, The Edge
and Jack White
, has hit the web. The film premiered at festivals earlier this year and was named an Official Selection at Sundance
, the Berlin International Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival. It was picked up by Sony Pictures Classics, and is scheduled for release on Aug. 14.
The premise? Guggenheim, who directed 2006's Academy Award winning An Inconvenient Truth,
brought the three musical icons together to talk guitars and play
some music. The result? According to a review by our own Robert Davis,
the imagined jam session might've been more interesting than its
execution. "It doesn't actually generate many real sparks," Davis reports.
"These guys have zero chemistry in film." He admits, though, "It Might Get Loud is still great fun."
Even if we can't expect fireworks, as the trailer hints, we can expect
a compelling glimpse into the lives of three rock legends. The film is
illuminated by concert footage from the archives and ardent confessions
about each musician's infatuation with the instrument. "We're all
attempting to share something with another human being," White says.
The trailer also promises original
music from Page, the making of a U2 single, and new music from
White as well.
