Viagra. Parkinson's. The pharmaceutical industry. Not the usual plot details found in a classic love story, but Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway's latest movie revolves around these rather unromantic issues. Like Brokeback Mountain, the last film the two were paired in, Love and Other Drugs is based on a book, but true-love skeptics take heed: This film isn't a work of fiction.
Based off the book Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman by Jamie Reidy, Love follows the non-fiction romance that blossoms between a Pfizer drug rep in the late 1990s (played by Gyllenhaal) and a woman who has Parkinson's (Hathaway). Their relationship begins when Gyllenhaal's character is on one of his sales calls. Not the sexiest date setting, but it apparently makes for a good story.
