Magnolia Electric Co. to Release Josephine, Tour

Magnolia Electric Co. has kept a relatively low profile since Fading Trails, with frontman Jason Molina dishing out the occasional concert or NPR spotlight. That profile is about to expand, though, as the band has just announced a July 21 street date for its forthcoming third LP, the concept-driven Josephine.

Josephine promises to be an LP of equal parts minimalism and pathos, as it was composed in tribute to the band's departed bassist Evan Farrell. Molina says that each track is a "good faith attempt to make real Evan's hopes for the record." Steve Albini, continuing his longstanding relationship with the band, helmed the production booth at his Electrical Audio Studio in Chicago.

Naturally, there's a big ol' North American tour in the works for the summer to promote Josephine, with San Diego's The Donkeys in tow:
