NeverEnding Story Movie Reboot Tentatively Planned

For fans of the book, 1984 movie The NeverEnding Story (and its sequels) was disappointingly dissimilar from the source material. With characters changed and endings altered, many bibliophiles left theaters feeling a little let down.

But one producer has recently said he's beginning the seemingly NeverEnding process to obtain the rights to make a new version. And he sounds determined to do the book justice.

Io9.com reports that producer Frank Marshall (who wasn't involved with the original) said at a press round table Tuesday that while the movie reboot is "kind of off in the distance," they'll start looking for a writer as soon as the rights are obtained. "We love the book," he said during the event. "We've always thought there was an opportunity there because there are a lot of elements in the book that aren't in the movie."

While the news of most '80s remakes cues some eye-rolling (Another Karate Kid?), Marshall's intentions sound promising. As do the rumors about Leonardo DiCaprio playing a part.
