Known as a legend among graffiti artists, the notorious New York City subway tagger known as Iz the Wiz died June 17 at the age of 50 after a heart attack. Iz, whose real name was Michael Martin, died in Spring Hill, Fla., where he had moved several years ago, according to The New York Times.
Iz was best known for spraying his name on subway cars, on every line in NYC, more times than any other graffiti artist. According to IzTheWiz.com, he created at least 100 "throw-ups" every night for a year, making his name known on burners, walls and entire subway cars in his simple, legible style. Iz's work was featured in myriad galleries and shows up until his death.

When this article popped up on Twitter I assumed it was about Michael Jackson, given their dates are the same (1958-2009) and the whole 'The Wiz' business. A touch coincidental.
