In an official announcement on their MySpace blog Monday, Brooklyn rockers Oxford Collapse broke the news that July will see the end of the band's eight-year collaboration. They did not cite the reasons for the break-up, instead playing on the Dead's retrospective sentiment, “what a long, strange, eye-opening, stomach-bursting, heart-breaking, bittersweet, educational, enlightening, mind-numbing, ‘why-are-we-doing-this-shit?’/‘who-gets-to-do-this-shit?,’ absurd, amazing trip it’s been."
The band got its start playing house parties and New York dives in 2001. Within two years, they were touring
extensively around the country, and they kicked off 2009 with a
full-scale European tour. Oxford Collapse's career also yielded four
full-length studio albums and an EP.
The trio will cap off their life as a band with two New
York-area shows in mid-July. Their gig on the 17th has already sold out, but the
band promises that there will be plenty of tickets for the farewell show
on July 18 at Chelsea club Under The Tracks.
