The wait has been long for an adaptation of Ayn Rand's novel Atlas Shrugged, but from the sound of recent rumblings, the philosophical page-turner might soon come to film fruition...in miniseries form.
Academy Award-winning actress Charlize Theron is said to be interested in an adaptation, and it's an exciting enough announcement to trigger a new take on how Atlas will be interpreted. MovieHole.net reports that Theron doesn't want the 1,300-some pages of the book to be lost in translation, so she suggests that a mini-series might be the best path.
The potential series would air on Epix, a pay-cable network that Lionsgate is making with MGM and Viacom/Paramount. If all goes well, shooting should begin next year.

I like the idea of Angelina Jolie better than Charlize Theron to play Dagny Taggart. Jolie has the masculine qualities that make Taggart's version of a feminist so intriguing. I know Theron can do "gritty" but Jolie, trust me, is Dagny Taggart.
Casting this thing would be a riot.

I think Theron has far more range and can muster very different resonances in her performance. It's not about being masculine, it's about a woman who's an engineer (a big a reality shift for an actress like Jolie), who's more interested in her work than her own femininity. Jolie excelled in her early druggie-sociopath roles but has never really shined beyond that. Theron is a higher caliber actor, like Blanchett I think she can catch character nuances like few American actors can. Jolie tends to get roles these days in part bc of who she sleeps with. Theron gets roles bc of her abilities.
