JellyNYC Pool Parties Return to Brooklyn

If there's anything we like more than pools, parties and good music it's when all of the above are combined and free. Not "free" in a there's-still-a-cover-at-the-door "free," but more like free free. (You follow?) And in this time of resesh, we couldn't feel more passionate about such goings-on. Thankfully, the folks at JellyNYC are throwing some of their famed Pool Parties again this summer in Brooklyn. Eight of 'em, to be exact.

JellyNYC first started these shindigs in the summer of 2006, using the then-abandoned McCarren Park Pool, formerly the largest functioning swimming pool in the country, for a little summer music heaven. Turns out people want to turn the converted concert venue back into an actual swimming pool (the nerve!), so the the folks at Jelly are moving their operation to the East River State Park on the Williamsburg Waterfront. We hear there'll be dodgeball and kiddie pools. So. There.

If you should attend, these Sunday parties will likely rev up your day of rest and serve as lovely bookends to sweaty, summer workweeks. Alas, the first party already went down last night with Mission of Burma, Fucked Up, Ponytail and Jemina Pearl, but there are still seven more in store! Before you hit the park, though, a few words of advice: Arrive early. Drink lots of water. Don't bring along any of this crap. (Seriously, people, leave the cargo shorts at home). And load up on sunscreen, even if these shows do seep into the nighttime hours.
