Kate Bosworth to Join James Marsden in Straw Dogs Remake

Kate Bosworth to Join James Marsden in Straw Dogs Remake

Sam Peckinpah's controversial thriller, Straw Dogs, left audiences rattled and the media in a frenzy when it was first released in 1971. Starring Dustin Hoffman, the film told the dark saga of an American mathematics teacher and his English wife who encounter violence and malicious neighbors when they move to the English countryside. Now, director Rod Lurie has begun work on a remake, recasting the story in the U.S.

James Marsden will play David Sumner, a Los Angeles screenwriter instead of a mathematics teacher, and the couple will relocate to the deep South rather than Cornwall, England. Now, Kate Bosworth (as Sumner's wife) and Alexander Skarsgard (as Charlie, Bosworth's former flame) have joined the cast. Shooting is scheduled to begin in August in Shreveport, La.

The film is to be released in theaters Aug. 13, 2010.
