Paul McCartney Returns to Ed Sullivan Theater After 45 Years

Tonight, Paul McCartney will appear on The Late Show with David Letterman for an interview and performance. The building holds a certain significance for the music vet, as it is the same theater in which McCartney made his debut in 1964 with The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show.

The Beatles' Feb. '64 performance on The Ed Sullivan Show launched Beatlemania in the U.S. and forever changed live-music performances on television. Letterman is filmed in the same studio, on the same stage where Sullivan hosted the Fab Four, though McCartney and his band will in fact perform on the roof during tonight's broadcast.

McCartney is currently amidst what he has called his final tour, the current leg of which begins on July 17 in New York City at CitiField. Dates through the end of summer are scheduled in Washington, D.C., Boston, Atlanta, Tulsa, and Dallas.

The Late Show with David Letterman airs tonight at 11:30 p.m. EST.
