Grizzly Bear and Lil Wayne Join Forces on The Soundmen's Veckaflyest EP

Grizzly Bear and Lil Wayne Join Forces on The Soundmen's Veckaflyest EP

If Lil Wayne is the hip-hop artist of the moment, Grizzly Bear is undoubtedly his indie-rock counterpart. Both rose to stardom thanks to glowing word-of-mouth publicity via the Internet, and you're likely to find Tha Carter III and Veckatimest on the playlists of those who style themselves as having eclectic tastes. They're also arguably the last two artists you'd expect to hear together in a mash-up track. So doubt not the powers of the internet, dear reader, because just such a mash-up have you received.

NYC remix upstarts The Soundmen have compiled a 3-song EP of Lil Wayne and Grizzly Bear mash-ups with the oh-so-clever moniker Veckaflyest: "Fine For Pop", "Hate the Cheerleader", and "2 Weeks 'til Prom". It's not quite one of those mash-ups where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, but Veckaflyest's synthed-out take on "Fine For Now" and the Kanye-flavored remix of "Lollipop" is worth a play or three. And hey, at least "Prom Queen" is listenable now.

If Soundman JJamison's MySpace page is any indication, they've got a lot more hidden away in their Macbooks than a one-off EP. Keep your browsers bookmarked, because we may be witnessing the birth of the next Girl Talk (or at least the next Super Mash Bros.
