They Might Be Giants to Release Science-Themed Kids' Album, Follow With Tour

July 17, 2009  |  4:35pm
Since 2002, They Might Be Giants has been introducing their alt-rock sound to a whole new generation. The next addition to the kid-friendly portion of their CV will be Here Comes Science, an album (not to be confused with this album) with tracks about such wonderfully scientific things as paleontology, chemical elements and photosynthesis, and a DVD of corresponding animated videos. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal for kids who weren't lucky enough to grow up with Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Here Comes Science will be available from Amazon and on iTunes on Sept. 1, and everywhere on Sept. 22 via Idlewild/Disney Sound. Starting in August, TMBG will be making weekly additions to the "They Might Be Giants Family Video Podcast" on iTunes.

TMBG first attempted kiddie rock seven years ago with the album No! It was followed by the album-DVD release of Here Comes the ABCs and the Grammy-winning Here Come the 123s. In addition to producing entire albums for children, the duo has also created several television theme songs for kids' shows, such as The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and The Oblongs. They've even stepped outside of their musical box and have taken to sponsoring Little League teams.

TMBG will be taking off on a U.S. tour this fall, hitting up music halls and museums across the country.
