Earlier this week, rumors started swirling, as rumors tend to do, that The Twilight Saga: New Moon would feature a pretty kick-ass soundtrack, rivaling and possibly even surpassing that of the first film. But director Chris Weitz has settled these rumors once and for all. In an interview with HitFix.com, he confirmed that Thom Yorke and Justin Vernon (AKA: Bon Iver) will both produce new songs for the movie.
Well, supposedly. "[Vernon] says he wrote it for the film, but who ever knows if it might just be something laying around in his cupboard," Weitz cracked. He went on to say he'd be happy with pretty much anything Yorke gave him, "unless it's sounds of him belching."
Weitz is happy, yes, but also hopeful that he'll be able to secure a couple more big names. He admitted that Kings of Leon still tops his wish list (even if the band's hit "Sex on Fire" doesn't exactly go along with the squeaky-clean sensibilities of the series' early installments). Filling the soundtrack with bands that he, the cast and crew all love has been a simple-yet-important personal goal for the director. After all, the music is hardly a make-or-break element for films involved with a franchise as popular as Twilight. Young girls are bound to show up in droves regardless of what songs are playing while Edward and Bella stare longingly into each others' eyes (see above).

Thom, what are you thinking?
Mmmm, there's nothing I like more than selling out! Awesome!
This is pretty awful news.
Bon Iver is always a huge band for the genre. And I would hate for the "one song on the soundtrack" bring un-needed fame.
But nevertheless I can't wait to hear the new songs.
