Remember that giant robot being built in Tokyo? Well, apparently the whole "30th anniversary celebration of Gundam" thing goes deeper than merchanizing bonanzas and life-size models of anthropomorphized war machines. Way deeper. We're talking Andrew W.K. deep. Yes, Mr. Party Hard himself is releasing an album of Gundam tribute music.
With the to-the-point title Gundam Rock, the album promises 14 English-language covers of music from the beloved 1979 Japanese cartoon, including the series' opening themes and background tracks. W.K. will also try his hand at English versions of the show's opening narratives and iconic speeches. It's not the first time he's let slip his predilection for Japanese culture, the dude released an under-the-radar album covering Japanese pop last year.
Gundam Rock is out Sep. 9 in Japan. No word on a U.S. release yet, but import-savvy types can put a pre-order in at CDJapan.
