As Inglourious Basterds Looms, The New York Times Zeroes in on the Weinstein Company

Tomorrow (Aug. 21) brings the release of Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, the movie widely to believed to be one of the Weinstein Company’s last chances to maintain solvency. In a dubious bid to put to rest the breathless speculation about the company’s future, legendary producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein granted astonishing access to a writer for The New York Times, including exclusive interviews, screenings of their upcoming movies and admittance into production meetings, among other things.

The result? A 5,000-word mini-epic published on Sunday that provides the most complete portrait yet of where the fledgling studio went wrong (as it turns out, Harvey had Rupert Murdoch delusions) and what the future for the notorious brothers might look like.

No fair giving away the entire piece, because more than anything, it’s a really good read. Check it out here, and stay tuned this weekend.
