When gravel-throated Delta Spirit frontman Matt Vasquez sings, “All you soul-searching people, come on!” the invitation is hard to resist. Equal parts ramshackle pop and neo-Americana, Delta Spirit showcased some serious songwriting chops and skill with unconventional instruments on its 2008 debut LP, Ode to Sunshine. With plaudits aplenty and a reputation for phenomenal live shows, the quintet supported The Shins on their most recent tour.

What’s Next? After a few more shows this summer and a primo slot at Lollapalooza, Delta Spirit will be heading back to the studio to cook up another album’s worth of raggedy barroom ballads.
