Best of What's Next 2009: Erica Dunton [Filmmaker]

The daughter of an acclaimed camera operator, writer/director Erica Dunton already has three features under her belt, including The 27 Club, a character study about a rock musician coping with his best friend’s suicide. Starring Joe Anderson (Across the Universe, Becoming Jane), The 27 Club is a poignant, thoughtful and funny road-trip movie that rises above similar films traveling the festival circuit.

What’s Next? With several scripts already optioned, Dunton is waiting to see which is greenlit first. She’s also writing a book exploring the relationships between teenage girls and their mothers, and directing TV shows, including an episode of the CW’s One Tree Hill. “I’m interested to see how developments in digital and Internet technologies translate within the film and television medium,” she says. “I know that it will affect me, yet I believe a good story is a good story, and there will always be a marketplace for that.”
