Grace Bonney started Design*Sponge five years ago in hopes of eventually landing a gig at a major design magazine. Since then, the blog has become one of the best online sources for up-and-coming independent designers—and it’s now her full-time job. Bonney’s posts seem carefully curated, but actually just reflect her eclectic and enthusiastic taste in papergoods, ceramics, textiles, furniture and delightful tchotchkes. She augments details on products she’s “loving” with original interviews, photo galleries, tutorials and more, while her Biz Ladies meet-ups and Design*Sponge scholarship nudge along emerging crafters and artists around the country.

What’s Next? “I’d love to research, work with and support artists in a different region,” Bonney says. “I feel strongly about the work coming from South Carolina, Georgia and North Carolina right now, so I’d love to have a change of scenery and see what’s happening somewhere south of Brooklyn.”
