Best of What's Next 2009: Jenny Lumet [Screenwriter]

Hometown: New York
Films: Rachel Getting Married, Remember Me (2010)
For Fans Of: Noah Baumbach, Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck, Sarah Polley

Jenny Lumet’s name first perked ears thanks to her lineage (yes, she’s Sidney’s daughter), but it fastened to memory with her debut feature as a screenwriter, Rachel Getting Married. A blunt, fearless writer, Lumet turned the story of a belligerent recovering drug addict into a rigorous and darkly funny exploration of family ties.

What’s Next? Lumet rewrote the script for Remember Me, a romantic drama about two young lovers (played by Robert Pattinson and Emilie de Ravin) who bond over a pair of traumatic events, and she’s recently been tapped to write This Strange Thing Called Prom, the film version of a New York Times article about a group of immigrant students who put together a prom at a Brooklyn high school.
