Death Cab for Cutie are not only joining Thom Yorke and Bon Iver in the Twilight sequel soundtrack, they are leading them.
The now-lead single, "Meet Me on the Equinox," will premiere on Sept. 13 at this year's MTV Video Music Awards, the band announced yesterday.
While it does allude to the celestial themes and motifs frequently
infused into the saga, the song focuses more on the emotions the Twilight characters experience, which is not a far stretch from the usual Death Cab repertoire.
"I think that a lot of our songs in general concern a lot of things the
main characters in the book are going through," bassist Nick Harmer
told MTV.
"There's a lot of stuff about relationships beginning and ending, and
the questioning that happens around being in love and falling out of
love. That's a comfort zone for us."
Soundwise, expect something "pretty dark and brooding, lyrically," though "uptempo" at the same time, Harmer said.
According to Twilight author Stephenie Meyer, the New Moon soundtrack is set for an Oct. 20 release.
