Legendary guitarist Les Paul died today from pneumonia complications at White Plains Hospital in New York. He was 94 years old.
Paul revolutionized music through his pioneering work developing the solid-body electric guitar and multitrack recording. Both these inventions ushered in the age of rock 'n' roll, and he is credited as being the "father of modern music." Recording alongside his wife and musical partner, Mary Ford, he earned 36 gold records while simultaneously popularizing the overdubbing and multitracking techniques he invented.
In 1952, Gibson Guitars began producing the iconic Les Paul, derived from its inventors name; an axe that would be wielded by superstar rockers like Jimmy Page, Pete Townsend and Jimi Hendrix.
