Gossip Girl is rather au courant when it comes to featuring the industry's finest bands. If a group featured on the show isn't already popular, then it likely will be, for better or worse, after making it into an episode.
New York's Sonic Youth hardly needs help attracting new
listeners to its ripened jams, but what's wrong with too much of a good
thing every once in a while? Guitarist/vocalist Thurston Moore will return this fall to GG's fifth episode, this time in full Sonic Youth splendor, to perform a blast from the band's past, an acoustic version of 1986 single, "Starpower." Moore collaborated with Be Your Own Pet frontlady Jemina Pearl during his first appearance on the show in 2008, covering the Ramones' "Sheena is a Punk Rocker."
"Sonic Youth is one of my favorite bands," GG creator Stephanie Savage told EW.com. "We have a very special event coming in Episode 5 that we're filming right now and they seemed the ideal music guest for it. It's a big event that involved [betrothed adults] Rufus and Lily. Just draw your own conclusions."
Sonic Youth's previous TV honors include an appearance on the Season Six finale of Gilmore Girls, where the band played its then-new track, "What a Waste."
