Thao with The Get Down Stay Down Ready New Album

After a busy year of touring and releasing a record with the Portland Cello Project, Thao Nguyen will drop her sophomore LP with The Get Down Stay Down this fall. Multi-instrumentalist Adam Thompson and percussionist Willis Thompson back Nguyen's buoyant vocals on Know Better Learn Faster, out Oct. 13 on Kill Rock Stars.

Having refined their songs on the road during a year and a half of touring, the trio got in the studio with producer Tucker Martine (The Decemberists, Jim James) and recruited some extra support from guests Andrew Bird, Laura Veirs and Blitzen Trapper's Eric Earley. Maintaining the characteristically upbeat and energetic sound of their debut, songwriter Nguyen also slows down for a few tracks on this new album, shedding her infectiously poppy signature sound to express melancholy in a new way.
