The Swell Season Streams New Single, Preps Strict Joy

Ever since that sweet scene in the Dublin music shop, the chemistry between Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova has been undeniable and charming. And it will be on display once more via the autumn release of The Swell Season's Strict Joy, the follow-up to the duo's 2006 self-titled debut and the 2007 soundtrack to the film Once.

This week, in anticipation of Strict Joy, the Irish-Czech duo offers "In These Arms" from the upcoming record, streaming now for a limited time on Spinner. In this preview track, Hansard sings the story of a troubled romance, while Irglova whispers tender harmony, as if the ghost of a former lover. With stripped down vocals—we hear the whistle of s's at the end of words—"In These Arms" hints at the bittersweet honesty that listeners can expect from the full-length.

Strict Joy will be released on Oct. 27 via ANTI-.
