At this point, expectations for The Wolf Man run so low that the movie will have to be quite something to overcome them. Its beleaguered studio, Universal, has shifted the release date four (!) times. It’s directed by Joe Johnston, known for Jumanji and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Stars Benico Del Toro, Emily Blunt and Anthony Hopkins have basically gone the “It’s just entertainment” route in interviews.
Now we have the trailer, and there are some nice images, if not an especially distinguished vision on display. The Gothic production design looks routine, as does what we can see of the story and the performances. We’re game to give it a shot, though, which might make us the only ones. Wolfman opens Feb. 10, 2010.
