Elvis Perkins Sets Release Date for Doomsday EP

The track "Doomsday" that Elvis Perkins first released early this year is a grand procession that sheds grief with each marching beat. But next month, he sends out to fans precisely what he had originally intended for it to become: a somber gospel number.

"Slow Doomsday," which is a revised version of the original "Doomsday" song helps convey what Perkins describes as the "many faces of American strain" that inspired The Doomsday EP, which will be released Oct. 20 through XL. For the sake of comparison, he bookends the EP with both versions of "Doomsday," though in between, Perkins offers four previously unreleased tracks.

The EP release comes before his Oct. 31 Midnight Ramble Session hosted by Levon Helm, and during his tour that starts tomorrow at New York's Housing Works.

Tracklist:
1. Doomsday
2. Gypsy Davy (Traditional)
3. Stay Zombie Stay
4. Stop Drop Rock and Roll
5. Weeping Mary (J.P. Reese)
6. Slow Doomsday

"Slow Doomsday" is available for download through Stereogum.
