European Film Academy Releases 2009 Shortlist

The European Film Awards has announced its annual shortlist of movies eligible for this year’s awards, which includes Antichrist, Broken Embraces and 46 other movies from 25 countries.

Movies up for the relatively new “people’s choice” award include The Baader Meinhof Complex, Broken Embraces, Coco Before Chanel, The Duchess, Fly Me to the Moon, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Let the Right One In, Mid-August Lunch, Slumdog Millionaire and, amazingly, Transporter 3. Dozens of other films will vie for awards like best European film and lifetime achievement, among other staples.

Last year’s best-film winner was Gomorrah; the people’s-choice winner was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The ceremony will take place Dec. 12 in Germany.
