Fantastic Four Gets A Reboot

Movie remakes are more popular than sequels these days, especially those of the comic-book sort, such as Batman Begins, The Incredible Hulk, and possibly the upcoming Spider-Man films. However, some superhero franchises are either so fortunate or so paltry that they are given a couple reboots to finally get it right. Enter Fantastic Four.

After a slumping pair of movies, Fox is willing to give the quartet a reboot, hiring Akiva Goldsman (Hancock) as its producer and Michael Green, Heroes' co-executive producer and co-writer of the forthcoming Green Lantern, to pen the script. Variety reports that Fox remains hush-hush about its specific plans for the overhaul.

The 2005 Fantastic Four and its 2007 followup, Rise of the Silver Surfer, were directed by Tim Story and starred Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis. The original cast's return is uncertain at the moment.

Although Disney will own the rights to Marvel's character pool, Fox still controls Fantastic Four film production, as long as they continue to be made.

Say what you want about Story's adaptations. They were still an improvement from Roger Corman's 1994 attempt, The Fantastic Four, which was never released. Don't worry, its trailer sufficiently sums up what could have been.
