Pavement Reunion Will Officially Begin on Sept. 21, 2010

Two events this week truly showed the world the power of these very interwebs.

First, of course, was the complete global takeover of a single phrase—"Imma Let You Finish"—which spread, in some incarnation, from Kanye's mouth to damn near every computer screen in the world. But that news, as the pop-culture gamut would have it, will fade away soon enough into internet-meme heaven. (Or will it?)

The second, and surely more lasting proof that we live in a tech-run era, is the long-fabled Pavement reunion. The news broke yesterday, and by this morning had spread to the farthest reaches of the internet. If this is the first you're reading of next year's reunion and tour of one of the most influential indie bands ever, then you likely just woke up from a coma or really long nap. If that's the case, welcome back! In this reality, Pavement's getting back together!

By this point in the afternoon, your grandmother probably knows that Pavement's Mark Ibold, Scott "Spiral Stairs" Kannberg, Stephen Malkmus, Bob Nastanovich and Steve West have announcedthat on Sept. 21, 2010, the band will perform at Rumsey Playfield in New York's Central Park.

Pre-sale for the show begins tomorrow morning (Sept. 18) at 10 a.m. EST. And if you thought news of the reunion spread quick, that'll be nothing compared to how fast these tickets fly. You can buy the tickets here using the password ZOWEE. The band has also announced that follow-up dates on a world tour of some sort will be detailed soon, but that the tour in no way denotes a permanent reunion. Which is to say: Keep your fingers crossed.

Stay tuned for more information and enjoy the next one year, four days and counting, folks.
