Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson will join Bob Mould for some October tour
dates along the East Coast, in part of promoting his upcoming Saddle Creek release, the Summer of Fear EP.
Robinson first started drawing attention from critics last year, before he released a self-titled debut last May that paired his mournful, bluesy voice and words with guitars both clanging and murmuring. In the album's opener, "Buriedfed," he witnesses his own funeral as he muses, "Believe me, I wish I was that dead."
But in Summer of Fear, out Oct. 20, Robinson focused the most on tension built up over a summer of bad decisions. "The summer of 2007 was like that one episode of Seinfeld, where everyone decides to do the opposite of what they're supposed to do," said Robinson in a statement. "So instead of going home to your girlfriend or whatever at night, you'd just stay at the bar and let someone inappropriate take you home. It became an awful unraveling."
Grizzly Bear members Christopher Bear and Chris Taylor, and old friend Kyp Malone (TV on the Radio, Rain Machine), all helped to bring out the best of his stress. The end result, based on what Robinson revealed, may sound more like what he offered through the driving and discordant "Woodfriend."
"It's like someone banging on a door really hard, until they start throwing their shoulder into it ... then someone on the other side simply opens it and on the next lunge the solicitor goes hurling across the threshold," he said.
