Put Down the Plastic Guitar: Daft Punk Joins Cast of DJ Hero
You can already be a rock star guitarist, singer, bassist and drummer through video games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero, so it was only a matter of time before gamers took to the turntables.
DJ Hero, a new game from Activision due Oct. 27, will allow players to spin records in the same manner that Guitar Hero allows players to shred—which is to say, without any musical skill whatsoever. But it'll be totally fun at parties!
Notoriously secretive French duo Daft Punk has contributed 11 new mixes to the game's already clutch song lineup. Each of the tunes is a mashup of a Daft Punk classic with some admittedly odd choices. Punk's funky "Around the World" blends with Young MC's classic "Bust A Move." "Robot Rock" meets its match in Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" and "Television Rules the Nation" somehow swerves into No Doubt's "Hella Good."
Really, though, is it any surprise that Daft Punk has emerged from the futuristic pyramid (in which we can only imagine the duo live, as well as perform) for a video game? They're already robots; living inside a video game seems the next logical step.
DJ Hero is also slated to feature Jay-Z, which could be the right move; after Blueprint 3, Hova could use any boost of credibility he can get. And getting it from a video game, well, that says a lot.
