Stooges Reunite With Guitarist to Play Raw Power

Stooges Reunite With Guitarist to Play Raw Power

You can call Iggy Pop a lot of things, but quitter isn't one of them.

And while his continued work with newer artists has been sometimes-spotty, his urge to get the old Stooges gang back together live—even after original guitarist Ron Asheton's death in January 2009—is a solid bet.

Asheton's death, though, certainly leaves a hole in the Stooges current lineup of bassist Mike Watt, drummer Scott Asheton and saxophonist Steve McKay—a hole that perhaps only James Williamson can fill.

Williamson joined the Stooges in 1973 (on guitar, when Asheton moved to bass) while the band was recording Raw Power. After the band broke up in 1974, Williamson continued to pal around with Pop until around 1980, after which he scrapped the music career entirely and began working in the computer industry.

Now, over 30 years later, Williamson is a Stooge once more.

The reformed band will pay tribute to its classic Raw Power with two dates next year, May 2 and 3 in London, as part of All Tomorrow's Parties Don't Look Back concert series, in which bands play their beloved albums in their entirety.
