Watch the Trailer for Jason Reitman's Up in the Air

The trailer for Up in the Air takes a risk, and, eh, it pulls it off pretty well. The third feature by Jason Reitman (Juno) comes from the novel by Walter Kirn about a corporate consultant who obsessively collects frequent-flier miles. Instead of trying to tackle that decidedly noncommercial premise, the trailer splices together gorgeous images, a voice-over of vaguely existential musings and fun-looking scenes with George Clooney.

Obviously, certain folks (tons of them, we guess) will see this movie either way, so if nothing else, the trailer suggests the film will more sedate than Reitman’s earlier, more uproarious work, which may not be such a bad thing. “Oscar” is the word on everyone’s lips after the premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, so take your first look at a movie you’ll be hearing about pretty much nonstop until it opens Dec. 4:
