Asthmatic Kitty Adds Three Titles to Library Catalog Music Series

Asthmatic Kitty Records is expanding its peculiar Library Catalog Music Series, with instrumental albums meant to soundtrack sleeplessness, memory and carpooling coming later this year.

The Library Catalog Music began as a collection of instrumental records meant to soundtrack any number of everyday activities, and Dec. 8 will see the release of three more editions. Music for Insomnia was composed by Asthmatic Kitty founders Sufjan Stevens and his stepfather Lowell Brams, both of whom wrestle with the titled sleeping disorder. Music for Memory was produced in long rhythmic patterns to kindle critical thinking. And Music for Savage Tropical Imagery is a project of former Crystal Skulls member Yuuki Mathews, prescribed as wonderful driving accompaniment for commuters and carpoolers alike.

The collection's original three volumes were released in July of this year—Music for Lubbock, an album of electronic compositions created in a four-year span; Law of the Least Effort: Music for Measurements, a tribute to '60s and '70s session bands; and Music for Drums, with a title that speaks for itself.
